Removable train

Taday I finished the removable train for the HSF challenge. The lace arrived and I attached the rest of it to the ruffles.

To make the drawstrings I finished small strips of muslin with the serger and then turned them inside out.

Then I fixed them to train and petticoat. To still have the possibility to wear the petticoat without the strings hanging out on the side seams, I left a gap in the seams to pull them back inside the skirt while not wearing the train.
This is one of the strings attached to the skirt and pulled inside:

And here are the facts:

The Challenge: # 24: Re- Do

Fabric: unbleached muslin, about 6 metres for the train

Pattern: from "Fashions of the gilded age" vol. 1; TV 225 for the skirt

Year: 1879
Notions: 25 metres lace for the ruffles

How historically accurate is it?  Pattern and fabric are historically accurate, but it is 100% machine sewn. The lace is synthetic. Maybe 70%?

Hours to complete: 6

First worn: Not worn yet

Total cost: 25€

Here are some pictures of the finished garment:

Today I started sewing and put together the train base and some of the ruffles. For the ruffles I used a ruffler- foot for my sewing machine so every tiny pleat has the same size... It is not historical accurate I know, but it is my favorite foot and I simply had to use it!
The description said to only use lace on the bottom ruffle, but I liked it so much that I decided there should be lace on every ruffle. Unfortunately I ran out of lace finishing the 5th...

Luckily I found the very same lace on ebay and am now waiting to get more. In the meantime I finished the ruffles leaving gaps on the ends to fix it later on.

Challenge #24: Re-Do

So my first project is an old project. To test a pattern I made this muslin skirt about a year ago.

The challenge says to re-do, and since the skirt is muslin i will not use it as the skirt it is. But it will serve me just fine as a petticoat. Good thing that I still have 2 rolls of that fabric. My re- do will be challenge # 18: Re-make, Re- use & Re- fashion.
I absolutely LOVE trained skirts and dresses, so I will ad a detachable train to make a natural form petticoat inspirated by this one:

It is from Frances Grimble's "Fashions Of The Gilded Age Vol. 1"

I will need:

1. Muslin - about 6 metres
2. Lace - I've got 15 metres - hope it's enough

To do:

1. scale the pattern
2. cut out the base and sew it
3. ruffles, ruffles ruffles
4. ad the waist band
5. ad the strings to train and petticoat
